Value statement
The UW Libraries support the educational, research, and service missions of the University of Wyoming by providing high-quality services and access to a broad range of information resources through democratic access, partnerships, stewardship, patron services, and Library personnel.
Democratic Access
- The UW Libraries support the principles of intellectual freedom and endorse the American Library Association’s “Library Bill of Rights,” the “Freedom to Read Statement,” and the American Library Association’s “Freedom to View Statement.”
- The UW Libraries uphold traditional library principles of patron confidentiality and privacy to insure our patrons’ rights for freedom of speech, open inquiry, and unfettered scholarship.
- The UW Libraries value a public, educational climate where all library users and library staff are treated with respect, without regard to differences of race, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, ethnicity, age, lifestyle choice, or disability.
Partnerships
- The UW Libraries strongly value the interdependence of libraries, their relationships with the AHC and Law Library, and the expansion and enhancement of information networks on campus, throughout the state of Wyoming, regionally, nationally, and internationally.
- The UW Libraries are committed to working with University IT to deliver enhanced, integrated, technological services for students and faculty as a foundational resource in achieving academic success.
Stewardship
- The UW Libraries are dedicated to providing attractive, comfortable library spaces for maximizing the success of its patrons and for effective performance by its faculty and staff.
- The UW Libraries provide, maintain, and manage a collection of materials in a variety of formats to support the educational and research programs of the University.
- The UW Libraries are dedicated to acquiring, processing, and preserving library materials efficiently, economically, and accurately for their physical and electronic collections.
- The UW Libraries as technological leaders anticipate and implement technology changes in order to provide clearly understandable online bibliographic access to its collections in the creation of a user-friendly, innovative, information environment.
Patron Services
- The UW Libraries promote their services as a central component of the University’s educational goals and mission, and are dedicated to having a strong presence within the campus community.
- The UW Libraries provide proactive, professional information services to the citizens of Wyoming and to their other constituencies regardless of location.
- The UW Libraries empower patrons with life-long literacy skills through one-on-one and classroom teaching activities.
Library Personnel
- The UW Libraries faculty and staff are essential resources for the effective provision of information and access.
- The UW Libraries value broad Library faculty and staff participation in the planning, implementation, evaluation, and improvement of technological systems, workflow, programs, and activities.
