Request It: Frequently asked questions
What is Request It?
Request It allows UW students, faculty and staff to request books, journal volumes, journal articles and other material regardless of where it is available.
Who can use Request It?
Request It is a service for current UW students, faculty, staff, and emeritus faculty.
Do I have to do anything before I can use Request It?
- Create an account once you Login to Request It using your WyoWeb username and password
- If you have difficulties, contact us at elsreq@uwyo or call (307) 766-5618
How do I request materials through Request It?
Click the
icon wherever you see it: Citation Finder, article databases, Library Catalog or the Libraries' home page.
What UW libraries are covered by on-campus Request It services?
Coe Library, Brinkerhoff Geology Library, Library Annex and Learning Resource Center participate. We can also scan articles located at the Rocky Mountain Herbarium Library. See also “Where can I pick up Request It materials?”.
What does Request It cost?
The service is free.
How fast will I get materials through Request It?
You can expect available UW materials within 36 hours, Monday through Friday. If we need to request from other libraries, expect 2 weeks or longer.
How will I know when materials are ready to be picked up?
We will e-mail you.
Where can I pick up Request It materials?
Request It allows you to pick up materials at the circulation desks located in Coe Library (corner of 13th and Ivinson), Brinkerhoff Geology Library (S.H. Knight Geology Building), Library Annex (basement between Physical Sciences and Biological Sciences buildings) and Learning Resource Center (LRC; second floor of Education Building).
Does Request It mean I never have to come to the Libraries for materials?
There are times when you will still have to or may prefer to come get materials at one of our libraries.
- Materials in closed collections, such as Reference, Hebard, Herbarium, or American Heritage Center, or materials that require specialized equipment to use must be used where the material is located.
- It is often faster to look items up in the Libraries’ catalog and retrieve the material yourself.
- Library users often like to browse library collections for new books or recent issues of journals.
What happened to Interlibrary Loan?
The Interlibrary Loan office still exists. We will continue to borrow materials from other libraries through Request It. By combining the two we can automatically transfer requests for UW materials to interlibrary loan requests, when our copies are unavailable.
What is Request It’s relationship to Prospector?
Prospector and Request It are separate systems. Prospector covers books and media from Colorado Libraries. Request It covers books, media, journal articles and other formats from UW and all other libraries.
