Wyoming Magazine Prospector Record

Title: Yellowstone Nature Notes
Summary: This began as series of typewritten notes for Yellowstone National Park rangers, (1920-1922) to disseminate information of interest to visitors during the summer season. These early issues have made up volume and issue numbers so they fit with the later magazine that reappeared as a mimeographed publication for staff and other interested readers in 1924. This second version was issued more or less monthly with cover art and occasional drawings inside. During the Great Depression, issues were reduced to bimonthly, a pattern that continued through the rest of its existence. In 1935, started having colored covers and in 1936 photographs started replacing line drawings for cover art. Suspended in 1942, v. 19 (5/6), because of World War II, it resumed in 1946 with v. 20. The title occasionally varied, sometimes "Nature Notes" and in 1932 one issue was entitled, "Eruptions from Yellowstone National Park." The editor complained of lack of articles in 1930 and combined the May-June issue with the July-August issue. It suspended publication in 1958, though issued a special issue on the 1959 Yellowstone earthquake in June 1960.
