About Audio Books

How to download audio books from UW Libraries

Basic Facts

  • This service is not compatible with Apple Macintosh computers or with Apple iPod devices.
  • Library users can preview, download and listen to audio books through the NetLibrary platform via the Libraries’ catalog. You can download up to 10 audio books any time.
  • Listening requirements – Audio books can be played on any desktop, laptop or portable device supporting:
    Microsoft Windows Media Player v9 and above
    Musicmatch Jukebox v8.2 and above, or
    Nullsoft Winamp v5 and above.
    You can also transfer titles to a wide range of portable devices, including:
    portable music players,
    portable media centers,
    pocket PCs, and
    select Smartphone devices that support the WMA file format.
    Additionally, some portable players allow users to listen to files through their car radios. Audio book files are "checked out" for 21 days and can be renewed at any time.
  • Off-campus users will be authenticated for the service through the Library's “Off-campus Access” location on our home page.

Instructions for Campus Access:

  1. Go to the Libraries’ home page http://www-lib.uwyo.edu
  2. There are two ways to search for audio books.
    1. Select “Articles/Databases” → “A” → “Audiobook Center.”
    2. Or select UW Libraries Catalog. Use the advanced search. For example, Find audio book (as a phrase) and King, Stephen (author). You can also search by title or keyword. Click the book title.
  3. Click “Download audio book”
  4. Click “Check Out & Download CD Quality”
  5. Create a Free Account. With a Free Account, you will be able to access UW Libraries’ audio books collection from anywhere, anytime. (NetLibrary End-User Privacy Policy and Terms of Use)
  6. Log on with your NetLibrary username and password
  7. Click “Download the book to your computer”
  8. Once the download is complete open the file in your media player.

Instructions for Off-Campus Access:

  1. Begin at the Libraries’ home page http://www-lib.uwyo.edu
  2. Select Off-Campus Access and logon with your UW userneame and password
  3. Follow the Campus Access instructions above.
