The MICROFORMS COLLECTION contains material published on microfilm, microfiche, and microcards. Major microform series include newspapers, selected journals, UW doctoral dissertations, U.S. government publications, and technical reports. Large subject oriented collections in the areas of anthropology, botany, education, history and literature are also available. Most materials published in microformat are identified on CARL as Mfilm, Mfiche, Mcard, or Mprint listed in the Location (LOCN) field of the detailed record screen after the branch designation, ie., Coe Mfilm or Sci Mfiche etc.
Coe Microforms
There are several specialized microform collections in Coe Library. One of the largest is the newspaper collection which includes the fou major national newspapers— New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, and the Christian Science Monitor. The only major regional paper available is the Denver Post but numerous Wyoming papers are available.
Indexes to the specialized subject sets in microform are located in the microforms index collection, designated MINDEX. This collection is found in the Reference area on the first floor. If you want to know how to use any of these indexes, please ask for assistance at the Reference Desk.
A variety of equipment for utilizing the microform materials is available. Reader/printers provide reproduction of copies from screen to paper for 15¢ a page.
Service and assistance for the microforms collection are available from the desk in the east basement. See the Library Hours for the hours the service desk is open. When the desk is not staffed, the collection and equipment are self-service.

The collection includes microfilm of UW Geology masters theses and dissertations, theses and dissertations from other universities, and a collection of materials related to the history of Geology. The microfiche collection is mostly uncataloged. It contains UW dissertations as well as dissertations related to the Earth Sciences from institutions in the United States and Canada.
