Books, e-books, and journal titles are found in the University of Wyoming Libraries' Catalog. You can search by title, journal title, author, keyword or Library of Congress (LC) subject headings. Some examples of LC subject headings to use in the subject search are:

 Academic Search Premier
Interdisciplinary index, includes some full-text journal articles.
 Art Abstracts
Provides indexing and abstracts to 378 international art publications. Coverage includes topics such as archaeology, crafts, folk art, graphic arts, interior design, video, film, architecture and art history.
 Art Bibliographies Modern
Indexes and abstracts journal articles, books, dissertations and exhibition catalogs--focusing on twentieth century art and design, as well as photography.
 Arts and Humanities Index
Indexes over 1,300 arts and humanities journals. This database indicates UW library ownership.
 Bibliography of the History of Art
Indexes and abstracts European and American art topics from late antiquity to the present.

 Artist's Handbook of Materials and Techniques

Gives the artist an account of various materials and methods. Chapters on pigments, oil painting, tempera, water color, pastel, mural painting, solvents, chemistry, conservation and more covers advantages, descriptions and characteristics for each type of material.
 Dictionary of Art (Groves)
Coe Ref N 31. D5 (34 vols.)
Covers all visual arts worldwide. "Biographies of artists, theorists, critics, patrons, and collectors; entries on styles, movements, art forms, subject matter, materials, techniques, conservation, archeological sites, countries, cities, cultures and civilizations, and theoretical issues."
 Encyclopedia of Comparative Iconography

Great for themes and images. Browseable, or use the index in volume 2.
Encyclopedia of Sculpture

 Encyclopedia of World Art
Coe Ref N 31. E 4833 (15 vols. with supplements)
A good source for an overview of themes and art styles. Includes lengthy bibliographies. Volume 15 has an index, the supplements are indexed individually.
 Gardner's Art through the Ages
Coe Ref N 5300. G25 2001
Classic art history text that covers Western and non-Western art from the paleolithic to present. Good chapter bibliographies.
 Oxford Guide to Classical Mythology in the Arts, 1300-1990s
Coe Ref NX 650. M9 R45 1993
An encyclopedic catalog of artworks dating from early Renaissance to the present that treat subjects in Greek and Roman mythology. Entries are organized by mythological figure or theme and list artworks, literary, musical and stage works related to that topic.
 World's Master Paintings
Coe Ref ND 40. W 75 1992 (2 vols.)
Early Renaissance to present. The first few pages of volume 1 give the artist's names with page number referrals. Organized by century and school (i.e. Italian 15th century). A brief artist biography, a bibliography, where his/her major collections are held, also where to find individual works. In volume 2, the first section features the collection strengths and main works of major international art museums (listed by city). A painting title index is included by century (starting with the 13th century) and lists artist name and museum where the work is located.

 Illustration Index
Coe Ref N 7525. A66 (5 vols.)
Index to illustrations in select popular magazines. Mostly photographs, but also includes drawings, maps and paintings. Each volume covers a range of years.
 Index to Two Dimensional Art Works
Coe Ref N 7525. K 67 (2 vols.)
An index to reproductions in books. Volume 1 is indexed by artist, volume 2 by title and subject. Volume 2 also provides location symbols to the museum where the actual work is located. Gives the title of the book the reproduction is in, the size, color or black and white. Paintings, tapestries, mosaics, but no photographs. 250 international and American books are indexed.
 Photography Index Coe Ref NTR 199. P37
Aids the user in locating reproductions of photographs taken by professional photographers from early attempts in the 1820s through the 1970s. 80 books and exhibition catalogs are indexed. Part 1 is a chronological listing of works by unknown photographers. Part 2 is an alphabetical index to works by known photographers and photographic firms. Part 3 is a detailed subject and title index which refers the user to the previous 2 sections for complete documentation and reproduction sources.
 Sculpture Index
Coe Ref NB 36. C55 (3 vols.)
Divided geographically by sculptor nationality. The sculptor's name entry has the information about the title of the piece and book abbreviation it is in (abbreviation guide at the front of vol. 1). Also searchable by subject. Note: Published in 1970.
 World Painting Index
Coe Ref ND 45. H 38 (2 vols., 2 supplements)
Assists in locating painting reproductions in books and catalogs by international artists. Volume 1 indexes books and catalogs published 1940-197. Indexed by artist's name, then lists the work and a number which corresponds to the book in which the work appears (the list of titles is at the beginning of the volume). Volume 2 is indexed by painting title, has the artist's name, then check vol.1 to see where the reproduction appears.

Use these sources to find information about art museums, programs, schools and more.
 American Art Directory
Coe Ref N 50. A54 2003/2004 3 vols.
The first volume contains information about U.S. and Canadian universities, academies and associations. Volume 2 has contact information for galleries, auctioneers, restorers, art publishers and art periodicals, art booksellers and a list of advertisers. The final volume features an index of individuals (curators, directors and presidents) as well as an index of institutions and companies.
 Art in America Guide to Galleries, Museums and Artists
N 1. A43 Newest issues are on the current periodical shelves.
The annual August issue features a state by state listing of art galleries and museums. There is an index of museums and galleries, as well as artist's names showing where they exhibited in the past year. Auction houses, dealers, nonprofit and university exhibit spaces are also included, as well as art schools and more.
 Art on Campus: The College Art Association's Official Guide to American College and University Art Museums and Exhibition Galleries

A guide to 730 university art museums and exhibition galleries. Entries include maps, illustrations, website urls, year established, attendance, admission cost, facilities and more.
 Artist's & Graphic Designer's Market
Coe Ref N 8600. A76 2004
Listing of various places to publish work, including magazines, books, galleries, advertising design companies, record labels, animation and more. Also background information on how to target your market, self-promotion tips, and how to focus on niches and trends.
 Directory of M.A. and PhD Programs in Art, Art History, and Related Programs

Uses the same format and focus as the below guide, except this one includes M.A. and PhD programs.
 Directory of MFA Programs in the Visual Arts

The focus of this guide is American MFA programs, but it also includes some Canadian and international programs. Geographic index. A helpful chart at the front indicates which degrees are available at which schools (i.e. specifically drawing, painting, graphic arts, glass, printmaking, etc.) Entries include a description of the curriculum, resources, financial aide, placement services, faculty, anticipated changes and comments.
 Grantfinder: The Complete Guide to Postgraduate Funding Worldwide (Arts and Humanities)

See the index section "Fine and Applied Arts." Each entry includes the institution offering the grant, the contact, level of study, eligibility, purpose, number of awards offered, frequency, the monetary value, length of study, closing date and more.
