Borrowing

Can alumni or community members get a library card?

Yes. Members of the UW alumni association can get a free card by presenting their alumni card and a state-issued picture I.D. Ask at the circulation desk of any UW Library.

What can I borrow?

You can borrow any materials that normally check out. See the various loan periods here, and policies regarding lost or overdue items here.

Can I have items held or request things that are already checked out?

Yes. Holds may be placed on anything that is checked out, except for reserve materials. When the item is returned, we will notify you and hold it under your name for 7 days. See our policies here.

What about renewals?

Renewals may be made in person, by phone at (307)766-3190, through the Secure Renewal Request form, of through My Library Accounts. Overdue items may be renewed in person, by phone and through the Secure Renewal Request form only.

How can I get books or articles the UW libraries do not own?

Borrowing through Request It (our interlibrary loan unit) or Prospector is limited to current faculty, staff and students. Use your public library’s interlibrary loan service to borrow items.

Computer Use

Public terminals are located on the main level of Coe Library, where you can access the internet and the library’s resources. They do not have productivity software, such as word processing or spread sheet programs. See how to print from the public terminals. Wireless access is also available throughout the UW libraries.

Database access

Public patrons and UW Alumni can use most of UW Libraries' electronic resources such as databases and electronic journals on-site for free at one of the numerous public access terminals in Coe Library.

UW Alumni do have additional options to use a subset of our databases remotely. UW Libraries and ProQuest have partnered to offer access to a number of ProQuest's research databases to UW Alumni. In order to use these databases remotely (from anywhere with an internet connection), alumni must register to use the WyoAlumni website. Registration is free. After registering, users can access this subset of databases by going to Services --> UW Libraries Database Resources and from there selecting the appropriate database.

Additionally, all citizens of Wyoming (must be a current citizen) can access a number of library databases through the Wyoming State Library's WYLD website. Users must have a current Wyoming public library card in order to use WYLD resources.

Photocopying & Scanning
