Why private support?
Welcome UW alumni and friends. This page is designed for those who are not currently enrolled students, faculty or staff of the University of Wyoming. There are a number of library catalogs, databases, and e-books and e-journals freely accessible to the public. We have created the following list of selected resources with you in mind and hope you find them valuable. Please don’t hesitate to contact us for assistance:

Libraries
Use these catalogs to search for materials in other libraries and then request the items through interlibrary loan (ILL) from your local library. ILL service is typically offered at minimal charge through public and academic libraries. Check with your local library on its ILL policies.
Wyoming Libraries
- University of Wyoming Libraries & AHC Combined Catalog
Search the Libraries’ catalog regardless of your affiliation with UW. However, electronic resources in the catalog are licensed and therefore restricted to use by currently enrolled students, faculty and staff. - University of Wyoming Law Library Catalog
- WYLDCAT Search the catalog and databases of Wyoming libraries. Full-text databases encompass a wide variety of subjects including business, medicine and health, literature, and education. Remote access to the databases is limited to Wyoming residents.
Other Libraries
- Library of Congress Search the Library of Congress catalog or explore one of the digital collections such as American Memory, Online Exhibitions, and Global Gateway to resources on world cultures.
- LibWeb Use to locate a library near you. Many libraries offer access to their online catalog. Public colleges and universities typically allow citizens of their state some library privileges; check with individual libraries on their policies.
- RedLight Green Searchable catalog helps you locate books and other research materials in your area of interest, and find out whether the items are available at a library near you.
Databases
The following is a list of searchable bibliographic databases. Use these databases to search for citations to the literature in a discipline and then request the items through interlibrary loan (ILL) from your local library. Anthropology
- Anthropological Index of the Royal Anthropological Institute
Bibliographic database based on the journal holdings of The Anthropology Library at the British Museum, 1957-present.
Agriculture & Allied Disciplines
- Agricola Bibliographic database created by the National Agricultural Library (NAL) encompassing all aspects of agriculture and allied disciplines, including animal and veterinary sciences, entomology, plant sciences, forestry, aquaculture and fisheries, farming and farming systems, agricultural economics, extension and education, food and human nutrition, and earth and environmental sciences. Some full text documents.
Business
- Hoover’s Online Database of company, industry, and market information.
Education
- ERIC Database of journal and non-journal documents 1966-present, sponsored by the Institute of Education Science and the U.S. Department of Education. Some full text non-journal documents are included.
- Gateway to Educational Materials Database for educators with quick and easy access to thousands of educational resources found on various federal, state, university, non-profit, and commercial Internet sites.
Law
- Cornell Legal Information Institute
This comprehensive site provides access to primary legal resources, such as US Code, Code of Federal Regulations, court opinions and laws. Also, includes summaries of legal topics and a current awareness service for US Supreme Court decisions and New York circuit court decisions. Web site sponsored by the Cornell University Law School. - FindLaw This comprehensive site is useful to the public, small businesses, law students, and legal professionals. Provides access to primary, secondary, and state legal resources. An annotation of the US Constitution using interpretive case law is included.
- Hieros Gamos Recognized for its extensive access to laws of other countries and international laws. Also includes links to primary US laws.
- State and Local Government on the Web
Convenient access to thousands of state agencies, city, and county government web sites. - Thomas Access to federal legislative information.
Medicine
- Medline Plus
Comprehensive site focused on consumer health. Search health topics, drug information, a medical encyclopedia and dictionary, and directories of hospitals and physicians. Sponsored by the National Library of Medicine - PubMed
Database of biomedical articles, 1950s-present, sponsored by the National Library of Medicine.
Science
- Scirus
Searches science specific Web pages to locate scientific, scholarly, technical and medical data, reports, peer-reviewed articles, patents, pre prints and journals.
Government Documents, Agencies and Sources
Government Documents Use this for quick links to frequently used government sources or to search for government documents by subject or agency.
Online Books & Journals
The following Web sites offer free access to the full text of books and journals.
- Berkeley Electronic Press The collection of working papers is free and encompass biostatistics, business and economics, legal studies, and the California eScholarship Digital Repository. Some journals are free, others require registration. Berkeley Electronic Press was founded by three Berkeley professors of law, economics, and business.
- Directory of Open Access Journals Free, full text, quality controlled scientific and scholarly journals. Hosted by Lund University Libraries and funded by Open Society Institute – Budapest and and also supported by SPARC (The Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition).
- Free Electronic Journals Alphabetical list by subject of free, full text journals, sponsored by the University of Nevada, Reno.
- HighWire Press Free, full text journals, primarily in the life sciences, sponsored by Stanford University Libraries.
