Borrowing

How do I get books and articles from the library?

  • A UWYO domain username and password is required to access library resources from off-campus. See Username and Password below.
  • If a book or article is not available in full-text, then use Interlibrary Loan to request the item.
  • The first time you make a request you will need to register to identify yourself to the library system. To do this, fill out the registration form on the interlibrary loan form page.
  • Materials are sent free of charge. You are expected to pay the return postage on books. Articles do not need to be returned.
  • If the item is available at UW Libraries it will be sent within 24 hours.
  • If the item has to be borrowed from another library it may take 2-3 weeks. Articles are received more quickly than books.

What can I borrow?

  • All library materials except current periodicals, reference books, and microforms

How can I renew items?

  • Renewals may be made in person, by the Online Renewal Form (best if you know you have a hold on your account), by phone: 307-766-3190 and by My Account. Materials requested by another patron cannot be renewed.

What if it’s overdue or lost?

  • borrowing privileges are temporarily blocked until overdue materials are returned or renewed
  • Items with a 28 day or longer checkout will be billed 28 days from the due date; and items with a less than 28 day checkout will be billed 14 days from the due date. You will be billed for the replacement cost, a $20.00 processing fee, and a non refundable billing fee of $5 per item.

Can I borrow from near-by libraries?

  • UW Libraries is a member of Prospector; you have access to over 20 million books and other materials from 23 libraries in Colorado.
  • Prospector does not include articles; the link to articles on Prospector’s home page does not work.

If Prospector doesn’t have the book that I need or I need an article, where can I get it?

  • Request It service from the Interlibrary Loan department

Finding Articles

  • To find articles on a topic, log on through off-campus access, select Articles.
  • Academic Search Premier is an excellent beginning point to locate journal articles.
  • To search specific subjects such as nursing, business, education and psychology, highlight a subject in the drop down menu.
  • To find an online journal, log on through off-campus access, select Journals.

Finding Books

  • After logging on through off-campus access, select Go to the library catalog. to conduct a basic or keyword search.

Username and Password

  • A UW username and password is required to access library resources from off-campus. This username and password is also used to access WyoWeb.
  • If you do not know your username and password, go to the WyoWeb page and click “Get Your Username and Initial Password.”
