Getting started: username & password
- A UW username and password is required to access library resources from off-campus. The same username and password is used to access WyoWeb.
- If you do not know your username and password, go to the WyoWeb page and click “Get Your Username and Initial Password.”
- For problems and assistance with your UW username, please contact the IT Help Desk at 307-766-HELP (4357) and choose Option 1 from the menu.

To Find Books: Log in by clicking “off-campus access”, then select “Find Books”.
Tips for using the UW Libraries Catalog:
- Know the title? Key it in (leave off articles like “the” or “a”) and select “title”.
- Know the author? Select “author” and type the last name first (e.g. Smith, James).
- Searching for books on your topic? Select “keyword” and enter your keywords. From your list of results, click on a title to learn more about the book. Click on
to order the book.
To Find Articles: Log in by clicking "off-campus access", then select "Find Article Databases".
- Academic Search Premier is an excellent beginning point to locate journal articles.
- To search specific subjects such as nursing, business, education and psychology, highlight a subject in the drop down menu.
- To find an online journal, log on through “off-campus access” and select “Find E-Journals”.
Tips for reading articles in library databases:

Tips for finding better articles in library databases:
Getting too few articles?
- Try fewer keywords or think of synonyms.
- Borrow from the list of subject terms listed in the article citations.
- Truncate keywords to search for variations on words (e.g. “censor*” searches censor, censored, censorship, and censors).
Getting too many articles?
- Try keywords that are more precise (basketball vs. sports).
- Select keywords in the “Narrow Results by Subject” column next to your results.
- Select "Refine Search" to limit by peer reviewed, date, or document type.
To Access Electronic Reserves:
- Click on UW Libraries Catalog on the UW Libraries homepage (under Find information).
- Select the course reserves tab.
- Select one of the following: Instructor, Department, Course. The Instructor heading is usually the easiest way to locate an e-reserve.
- From the screen that pops-up select the Electronic Reserves entry for your class.
- Click on the link for your reading next to the heading E-items.
- Now log in with your UW username and password. Remember to read and check the box regarding copyright agreement.
- The item will open in Adobe Acrobat. Your PC must have Adobe Acrobat to view the item.
Citation Tips:
- Email yourself information from the database or catalog for future reference.
- Select your citation format when emailing articles from EbscoHost and the database will create a citation for you.
- Select eReference & Style Guides from the libraries’ homepage and find:
- Online dictionaries and encyclopedias, including high quality resources within the Gale Virtual Reference Library.
- Links to style guides for APA, MLA, CBE and Chicago citation styles.
- Links to online citation building tools.
